Campus Visits
Campus visits are important to college admissions process. Through visits students can explore many different resources available in a given college, learn about campus life, academic offerings, financial aid, and find out about its geographic setting. In short, students can get a feel about the college’s dynamics and understand if it would be a right fit place for them. Furthermore, in a holistic application review the admission committees take into consideration “demonstrated interest” and campus visits indicate interest.
In addition, virtual college visits through the college’s website or other resources such as www.youvisit.com and www.campustours.com provide great opportunities to learn about the campus. As a result of the pandemic, colleges have developed many virtual resources making campus visits and student engagement accessible for prospective students. These newly adapted tools will remain in effect even after the pandemic.
In-person college visits can be costly but it is worthwhile. However, keep in mind that most colleges can subsidize visits or offer room and board for students from low income families.
As an Independent Educational Consultant, I also visit colleges through organized tours for independent counseling professionals, and attend special webinars organized by the admissions offices to explore colleges and stay abreast of the changes.
